It was very late, probably around 2 or 3 in the morning, and very cloudy. It almost looked like it was going to start storming soon, but as of now, it was calm. Not even a breeze went through the small town of Niharuka. Everyone was quietly sleeping in their beds. Well almost everyone.
A shadow crept down the streets slowly, their steps not audible by anyone who was remotely normal. They moved swiftly and quietly, playing the shadows, as if they felt like they were being followed. A wind blew, and the person clung on to their black robes and hood, holding it on. They glanced upwards at the sky, a pair of deep midnight blue eyes looking around wearily as they walked up to the most protected place in Niharuka, Tsukina Manor. There, Nuriko sighed as she closed the front door to her empty house.
She had a dream in the short time she was asleep. This dream roused her from her sleep, urging her to leave in the quiet of night, leaving those closest to her in the safety of the temple as she went on a quest to her house. Memories. Memories she had never forgotten, but had almost given up on. People she hadn't seen since before she was banished and she had assumed they were dead. She walked through the house into the back yard. Her back yard attached to a small part of the forest in her backyard, which she also kept very protected from and evil presences. She had to, considering what she kept back here.
She walked up to a small pond, a small statue in the middle of the pond. The statue was of a woman in rags and a hood, her hands wrapped in rags, and her eyes looked sad. In her hands was a scythe. And not just any scythe... but her scythe. She reached out her hand to take the scythe, her hands were wrapped in black rags. She was wearing a black torn up robe, roughly knee-high, with a slightly torn hood attached to it which she kept down. Her face looked sad as she held it, her eyes cold, her hair blew in the breeze. Holding the scythe always reminded her of the burdens of an angel of death. But it also made her feel at home. She was the angel of death for so long that she was at home in the shadows and silence.
She remembered her life as an angel of death. She remembered her brother. Her twin. She was always very close to him, and he was very protective of her. They were nearly inseparable when she wasn't out on a job, which he was very open about him not liking her job and he didn't trust the people for which she was often sent out on jobs for. She passed most of them off as a jealousy thing, she thought maybe he was upset about the jobs taking her away from him. But she never asked. She enjoyed her time with her brother enough to not mind her job. She was good at it, widely considered one of the best, at least until she was banished.
And now she found herself thinking about the old days. She sighed, looking sadly at the statue that mirrored her, even down to the expression. But she couldn't stop feeling like she was being followed. She stayed alert. More alert than ever.

As the air blew, leaves flowed in it. Dancing the rabid dance of nature, they flew, deciding not where they were going. Ishnamel approached the girl staring at the weapon. She seemed in a trance staring at the blade at it lain in her hands. He stopped and spoke to her in a tone he hoped wasn't recognizable to her. "Being a Reaper was hard on you wasn't it?" he said it hoping his eyes were hidden. "I can understand that burden, as I am your replacement Nuriko." he calmly lowered his head and looked at the dirt below. "I have a contract with your name on it... One for your little friend too." He rose his head and stared her in the eyes, "I have no quarrle with you Ex-Grim..." he turned to walk away. "I was assigned to bring you back. But, I never said when I would do it..." he walked off and chuckled a bit. "Your friend, I don't share the same feeling for..." he vanished into thin air as his custom.
'Soon, very soon his soul is mine...'

Nuriko lowered her hand, still holding the scythe. The wind blew, blowing some leaves between the girl and statue that stood in front of her. She turned her cold gaze toward the man who had come up behind her. Her midnight blue eyes took him in, Trying to decide if he was trying to mock her or actually had good intentions. Her replacement, huh?
"I had a feeling they would find me sooner or later... I've been complacent." she looked confused, her sadness intensifying as something about the strange man reminded her of her brother, though she was quite sure it wasn't him. She sighed, her sadness becoming overwhelming as tears started falling down her face.
"I just wish I would have been able to find him... All I ever wanted to know was that he was alive and well somewhere." she collapsed onto her knees, crying as she leaned on her scythe. It was a very sad vision to behold. She sighed, trying to bring herself under control.
"What can I do... I haven't the strength to protect anyone, let alone myself..."

He stood invisible in the wall that separated her home from the world. He watched as she sobbed and landed the side opposite of hers. 'I am afriad these matters will wait. I have a date with Mr. Liwa...' he stopped and shouted out still unable to be seen. "Your sibling isn't far. I know of his whereabouts. Although, you might not be happy with him after you see him. I must fufil my contract toward your little friend however. I apologize if harm comes your way emotionally speaking. He must be dealt with." he walked off and became visible again. Knowing this, he put his mask on and summoned his scythe. She curved nicely and gleamed in the starlight. He grew a smile on his face as he approached the shrine. He hoped she was able to watch as her lover was taken back to where he belonged.
"It all ends here Liwa... Time for you to pay for what you have done to my family!"

Nuriko was snapped to her senses. Going over their short conversation in her head, she realized that he was after Tori, but was hoping she wouldn't get involved. She shook her head, suprised at the burst of energy she had gotten as she lept into the air, spreading her black wings and soaring as fast as she could to the shrine, her scythe still in her hand. She didn't even bother landing in the courtyard, she went straight for the bedroom window she left out of not an hour ago. She found him still sleeping, she smiled softly, but her guard was still up, she knew the man was coming after him. She wasn't going to let them take him.
"They won't get you, not after everything I've done to keep you safe."

Before long he saw the large black wings form over his head and he gazed at the figure taking aim at the shrine. She had flown into the room where he was asleep. How bothersome, he had hoped she wouldn't interfere but oh well. He guess it was going to happen eventually. he took his scythe and sliced the large doors to the shrine open. Placid had been standing in the room and had dodged the large chunks of wood flying at him. Ishnamel glared around for Tori and headed back to the room he slept. "Knock Knock!" he blew open the door. He glared at Nuriko through the mask and chuckled. "You can't save him. I won't allow you to interfere!" he grabbed her by the arm and stared her down. "Look into my eyes... What do you see?!" he glared at her and chuckled. "I told you... You wouldn't like your brother as he was!"/ he tossed her aside as Tori awoke he noticed the Scythe being raised. "Die you home wrecker!" Ishnamel shouted as Tori leaped and grabbed Nuri and ran out of the room. Placid saw them run past out the door and stood in Ishnamel's path. "You! How dare you stand in my way!" he shouted through his mask. Placid stared him down, hoping he would dissapear and leave. Ishnamel huffed, "Im not here for you! Only for Liwa!"
Placid shook his head and stared him down. "If you are here for him, then you are here for me." Placid stood his ground staring the Grim in its fake shell. Ishnamel shook a bit, almost intimidated. "You are aware of what I do no? I take what is handed to me. You of all people should understand... Grim ode Shadow..."
Placid looked down with a face full of shame and looked away. "I had no choice in that matter..." he said it and Ishnamel passed him laughing. "None of us had a choice! None of us ever will..." and flew by unti he reached the main road Tori stood huffing and wiping a small sweat from his brow.
"Ok, what does a Grim want with me? Huh?" he shook his head and stared at the Grim's mask. "I am serving my sentence! I am not to be hunted by anyone!" he said it trying to collect his air supply. Ishnamel chuckled, "Humph, your no warrior! How you were a Guardian surprises me! I am not here on a legitamate contract however. I am here for a personal matter!" he flew towards Tori and swiped his scythe at him, it created a gash in his arm causing Tori to hit the ground hard. He laid there while the Grim grabbed him by the throat.
"You ruined my life! My family is ruined because of you! Now you bear a spawn?! I will ensure nobody like you harms my Nuriko again!"

She couldn't stop the tears that flowed as she realized the situation she found herself in. She had sworn to protect her brother, and hoped he would never have to feel what she felt, go what she went through. And now she was fighting him to protect the very person she was supposed to kill but couldn't. She barely realized that Tori was running out of the temple and down the street, pulling her with him. It wasn't until she hit the ground that she came to her senses. She looked up, watching as her brother grabbed Tori by the throat. She stood up, clenching her fists, still holding her scythe. She swung the blunt end of her scythe at her brother, using it as a bludgeoning object and bashing him with it, knocking him away from Tori. Standing in front of him, she glared at him.
"You have no idea what I went through to keep him alive. I'm not going to let anyone mess that up. Not even you, Mikael." she looked at him sadly.

His mask had hit the ground, as well as the hood on his robes fell. His face and head were finally exposed. His hair blew in the wind as it gusted to and fro. His eyes hit hers and he knew his gaze was colder than any piece of the arctic shelf. "He caused this! All of this! If it wasn't for him we would still be a family! Now you bear his spawn!" he threw out his scythe again and pointed it at Tori, "You ruined everything! We had it good until you showed up! You couldn't leave her alone! You ruined my life!"
Tori stood up huffing and chuckling. "Oh cry me a river..." his arm bled heavily as he stared Mikael in the eyes. "Quit whining, you sound like a damn child!" he stood straight and glared at him. Mikael screamed out in rage and charged him slashing him across the chest then bashed him in the forehead. It knocked Tori a few feet away and he huffed a small painful cry and laughed. "Ngh... C'mon boy... What's the matter? Getting tired already?!"
Mikael stood there infuriated and confused. "Why won't you die?!" he charged at Tori once more hoping this hit would end it. However, Placid had moved into his path and in his hands held the charm Mikael gave him. "Do it. I dare you. Just think about this though, if you make the wrong decision... I sure as hell won't regret what HE does to you!"
Mikael took a few steps back as the shadowy figure formed behind Placid. "Oh! How interesting! A Grim! How inferior! Ill make sure I get THAT job back sure enough!" Nocturne said making Placid cringe a bit. "Your her replacement?! HOW PATHETIC!"
Mikael dropped his scythe and his eyes grew into orbs of pure fear. "Y-you... Can't be... No! You can't hurt me!" he picked up the scythe and Tori hit him once in the gut causing him to drop the scythe and the kneed him in the head. Knocking him down, over to the side he saw the imps trying hard not to laugh. Placid looked at the charm in his hand and watched it dissapear into thin air.
"What?! What happened!?" Mikael said as Tori kicked him in the head. "Those little creatures cause optical illusions. You fell for that trick... How lame." he looked at the boy who tried to stand after the kick, he struggled to his feet. "You... why did you have to do this to me... My life is gone... All I had was my sister... She was the only thing keeping me sane... Then you came along..." he said it grabbing his scythe then dissapearing.
"I will return for you Liwa. For now, say your good-byes..."

Nuriko watched as the two people she loved fought. She didn't have the energy to intervene. All she could do is watch. She dropped her scythe, finding it hard to breathe.
"Why...must I choose...between... the two... most important... people... in my life..." she cried, she saw everything happen, she watched her brother dissapear. "What.. did... I...do..." she calmed her crying, her breathing slowing as she knelt there on the ground. Her vision darkened as she collapsed onto her back.
"I'm sorry... Mikael. I didn't spend enough time with you." she mumbled, even though she was under the impression that he left. "But please... don't blame Tori for my mistakes. You will always be apart of me... my brother..." and with that her eyes closed.
Mihari, who had woken up and ran out in time to watch the last few minutes of everything had went on, ran over to Nuriko and brushed her hair out of her face. Watching her for a few minutes, she looked grimly at Tori.
"She's out. She used up her energy too fast... It caused her to go into a coma-like state. She won't be out until after the new moon passes. We're on our own." then turned and looked at placid.

Tori looked around and sighed knowing what was going to happen next. The damn heralds were going to come and ruin everything. Typical, it was always them who made a mess of things. Tori picked Nuri up and placed her on the bed she had slept on earlier hoping she and his little girl were okay. "Luckily, I am not banged up to much..." he said cringing a bit. Placid scoffed, "You idiot... You taunted a Grim Reaper. The fact you are still here is a damn miracle. Don't play him for a weak demon. We aren't ones you can just toss around like toys. We ARE dangerous." he stood straight and called for Mihari's help healing Tori's wounds. "Now listen. What you just did hurt HER. You know this, but yet you continued. Why?"
Tori looked Placid in the eyes. Feeling sorry for himself seemed a bit odd but he explained himself clearly. "I knew he hated me, I always have. Although, now I know why. I did it to finally make him say it. I only want the best for Nuriko, so does he, but... I love her..." he took her hand and sighed. "I know it wasn't the best way to take action but it worked. I can handle Mikael. Even if he has a few new tricks."
Placid nodded and looked away trying to find out if he is right. He wasn't a normal Angel, thats for sure. Making sure he can handle a Grim is another story. "He is strong Tori, don't get yourself killed because of a disagreement. Wouldn't want Hana to be alone would you...?" Tori sat there and shook his head, "How did you kn-?" Placid cut him off, "Kibiko, she wasn't to happy about it. But, then again neither was Mio..." he walked out of the room to the outside, hoping Mikael was still there.
"C'mon... I know your still here..."

Mihari figured out what had happened easily enough. She healed up Tori's wounds and watched over Nuriko for a few minutes. Brushing Nuriko's hair out of her face, she sighed. She felt bad. Not only for Mio and Kibiko, but for Tori and Mikael. It was just very bad timing. She sighed. With the Heralds trying to free Nocturne, and Nuriko being out of commission, meaning all her protective barriers were officially down around the temple, it means they couldn't afford to bicker and fight amongst themselves. At least not until after the new moon was over.
"I wonder if they realize how imperitive it is now that we stay together and protect you." she said, talking to Nuriko's unconscious body. "I mean as much as I know they need other people besides just you, at least we can defend ourselves. You're pretty much defenseless."

Ariel stood in the doorway of the shrine and smiled at the ruble that laid there. Her brothers walked along with her and her one sister. Placid and Tori both stood ready, they knew what was on thier minds. Well, they THOUGHT they knew. Ariel smiled at the boys and chuckled. "How cute. You two really think you can beat all seven of us?" she shook her head. "Nobody can be this stupid... But, regardless... We have something we would like to say. We are not here to free Nocturne. We assure you of that. We are tired of being his slaves..." she said as she stepped away from her siblings and placed a hand out, "Trust me when I say that. I may have had many moments when I decieve boys like you but this time I mean well."
Tori shook her hand and she walked away with her siblings and Tori simply looked confused. "So, what are you on our side now or what?" this caused the group to laugh. "No hun it means that we won't kill you today... Ta ta..." and with that they vanished. All except one, Azazel. He turned and looked at Placid. Eyeing him as much as he could handle. Then he vanished as well, leaving a very unsettling mood in the air.
"What the hell just happened?"

Mihari had felt the presence of the heralds in the temple. But the presence didnt stay long. It was there for a couple minutes then left. Not wanting to leave Nuriko as she was, she stayed next to her, wanting to know what happened.
Is everything alright? What happened?" she called out, still sitting next to Nuriko.

Tori stared blankly at the empty doorway and laughed, "We won!" Placid of course huffed a sigh of relief then made his way back to the room where they placed Nuriko. "We didn't win, we just prolonged certain doom..." he said with his eyes closed. Tori nodded, "Right, but the important thing is that they have no intentions anymore. At least we hope not!"
It was 8AM, a saturday morning. The month of November was unusually cold for Niharuka, making it very odd to have anyone wearing shorts. Tori however stood outside and surveying Mikaels damage. Not good at all. He sliced the doors in half and shattered them. "Geez, he couldn't knock... I don't get it, why can't people just knock? They always have to go and smash stuff..." he sighed and walked along the dirt path toward the town square. The local shops were getting ready, however the Donut shop had already been open. Tori picked up some treats for Nuri, hoping they would do her some good.
"I know this won't make a dent in the problems I made but, maybe I can talk to her..." he could hear the sound of running shoes as he turned to look he saw Kibiko run by and grab one of his bags of food. She mocked him as she ran, only to end up at the shrine and stared at the mess. Tori caught up with her and took the bag back. "You could have asked ya know?" he said walking inside. She followed him and shook a bit. "What... What happened here...?" Tori looked back at her and shook his head. "Let's not talk about that right now..."
He walked in to see Nuriko sitting up in the bed. She looked tired. Almost as if she hadn't even been asleep the whole time. He handed her one of the bags and hoped she would eat. Kibiko watched from the doorway and left the room toward the kitchen. Placid sat there at the kitchen table half awake. "I believe things are about to become more... intresting around here.
Hours past, Placid explained the story to Kibiko who had called Mio and Shun to the table from hom. They were all pale when they heard the story. "How... how horrible..." Kibiko said looking down. Mio stayed silent as Shun tired to collect what he was told. "Mate... Your saying we have to Worry about a Grim Reaper now? It's also related to our friend too? How great..." he said sitting down and taking a sip of water from a glass he had made for himself.
Placid nodded at their reactions, "i agree with you all... However, we can't let that relationship ruin this current agenda."

Nuriko sat in the bed in a daze. She was barely paying any attention to the world around her, let alone that it had been almost a week since the incident. While she was starting to get her strength back, her heart was broken. She looked around the dark room, seeing her scythe sitting in a corner. She clenched her fists, and the first chance she got, as soon as they left her alone in the room for a few minutes she took off, flying out her bedroom window and soaring as fast as possible back to her shrine at her house. She landed with surprising grace in front of the statue and walked forward. Other than the clothes being different, the statue seemed to mirror how she felt on the inside. It was cold out, she could see her breath easily, but she stood out there in her white dress, staring at the statue for a few minutes before placing the scythe back on the statue where she had kept it all this time. Then, sitting on the base of the statue, she drew her knees up and started crying. For the first time in the past week since before she passed out, she cried. While she was relieved that they didn't have to deal with the Heralds for the time being, and she found out her brother was alive, how could one pick between their twin and their love? And when had he become her replacement? Was it to spite her? Or was it just as simple as a was for him to get rid of Tori. She had never realized he had hated him so much. She wrapped her arms around her legs, drawing herself into a ball and wishing she could make herself dissapear.
Meanwhile, Mihari walked through the temple, heading toward Nuriko's room with some hot chocolate and cookies. They always cheered her up, so she made her some in hopes that it would her Nuriko. But when she got to the room, she found it empty. In her shock, she dropped the tray, shattering the dishes at her feet, which caused her to panic a little. She ran into the kitchen where everyone else was sitting.
"Nuriko is gone..."
