Nuriko sighed, looking out the window from her 2nd floor family room. She had never really been very good at talking to her family, but she decided that needed to change. The last year couldn't have been easy for them. But it was about to get alot more strange. She sat down at the piano, her fingers stretching as she began playing. It was a song she used to play alot as a child. She smiled, her face calm. A figure sat next to her, his back against the piano as she played. He looked at her, taking in the changes, the scars. It had been almost 20 years since they had seen eachother, but aside from hair, it hadn't looked like either of them had changed. His violet eyes took her in, almost sadly.
"How have you been handling things, Nuriko."
Nuriko kept playing, not looking up.
"Very carefully. My failure to keep my emotions in check has already caused my family enough problems. But I've gotten a handle on it this time, just taking a different approach." He nodded, looking away. Nuriko looked up at him for a second, gazing at his face. "The kids are going to be here soon. Do me a favor. Don't say anything bad about Tori?" Mikael looked at her, gazing into her silver eyes, almost appearing hurt.
"I may not have liked him much, but I'm not that cold."

Kaiden walked into the family room to see Mikael sitting there speaking to his sister. He coughed to make his pressence known. "Oh, hello Mikael. Its been quite a while..." he said trying to sound friendly. As he did, Hana poked her head in and smiled. "Mikael?" she said looking at the boy next to her mother. "You... you are our uncle?" she said smiling. Kaiden turned to her and took a step back. "My name is Hana... Um... I am unsure if mom told you about us or..." she began as Kaiden looked unsure and then looked to Nuriko, then spoke to Hana. "Hana, could you do me a favor? Can you get Kazuma over here? There is something I would like to discuss with you both..." he said. She looked at him, her face growing cold, then nodded. "Fine." she said walking out of the room slowly. Kaiden covered his face and sighed, "Well, better time than any..." he said looking to Mikael. "It is good to see you again though. Glad you could come down and visit." he said looking out the door, then leaving the room. Hana had shut the front door as he made it down stairs, letting a cold draft inside slightly. He moved into the Dining area and sat down. He leaned on one arm and pondered what he was going to say. He knew it was time to tell them, it was now or hold onto the secret until the day came.
Eiko had moved her way into the living room upstairs and noticed Mikael there. "Well then. Its quite a surprise to see you Mikael." she began as she made her way to a nearby chair. She looked at him and her face grew unclear, "Are you here for pleasure or has Alana sent you as her personal Messenger?"

Nuriko sat there, silently playing the piano as Hana and Kaiden came in, then left as fast as they had came. Mikael hadn't even had a chance to say anything. He shrugged, he wasn't sure how he would tell them that he stayed away out of respect for their mother due to his remarkable hatred for their father. But he had always hated Tori. He looked up as Eiko came in. He hadn't seen her in years, but she still cut a pretty impressive figure even now. His face stayed blank.
"I came to see my sister. I would have visited sooner, but me and Tori have never really gotten along." he looked down at the ground. Nuriko stopped playing, turning around in her seat. She smiled at her brother, grasping his hand gently. He looked up at her, then smiled. It was the first time Nuriko had seen her brother smile since she was young, and it made her teary eyed. Then she looked at Eiko. "Kaiden has decided that he should be the one to tell Hana and Kazuma." Mikael looked shocked. Then his look turned to concern. "Isn't it a bit soon? It's only been what... a month?" Nuriko nodded. "That's what I'm worried about. We may have had this bond for millenia. But to them, it will still feel like yesterday when they lost their father. I feel bad for Kaiden. They were very close for a while there. But recently, the kids have grown... awkward, even cold around him." She looked down at the ground, somewhat sadly.

Eiko smiled, looking at the boy. "Oh, I do know you and him had... quite the hard relationship." she said laughing lightly. "You are protective of her. I do understand Tori was definitely... Overzealous. But, do know he tried his hardest to change your mind." she shifted her legs to cross them. "It is good to see you again though. I always thought you were a good boy, despite you and Tori's headbutting." she looked toward the door and sighed, "The children are... going to be very unhappy with the decision, I feel." she said standing up, her outfit was tightly fit, a kimono made to be comfy, but, be used in battle. "I guess I should get Kaiden back in here however. It would be better to discuss this in a more... comfy room." she said leaving the room. She made her way downstairs and shifted through the hallway to the dining area. Kaiden looked up and sat up in respect. "Kaiden, this room probably wouldn't be the best for this..." she began trying to get him to come with her. "Discuss it with everyone in the room, please." she said warmly. He sighed and nodded, "Ok, I just... Want them in a comfy spot."
"Trust me, being with their mother would be better than just you." she said as he stood up. He followed her back into the living room and he took a seat on a nearby couch, the air was dense to him. He was nervous, but, he knew it wasn't a bad thing. He looked up to Nuriko and smiled sadly. His eyes just watching her play. She was the only reason he was able to really function anymore. Tori did his best to ensure her happiness, so, this needed to happen. As he thought this, the door opened, then slammed downstairs. When it did, a chill ran up Kaiden's spine. The two kids walked in, looking around at Kaiden in question. Kazuma looked at Kaiden and folded his arms, sighing.
"Well, we are here. What is it you need?" he said looking amused. Hana sat on a stool near her mother and sat patiently. "Your mother and I are um..." he began starting to get slightly nervous. Eiko looked at him and smiled, "Go ahead. It couldn't hurt." she said. He swallowed the lump in his throat and cleared it. "Y-Your mother and I are... Engaged." he said looking at them. Hana gave him an angry shocked look, Kaz stood there looking rather angry, but, holding his composure.
"What?! Engaged!" Hana said standing up enraged. "NO! You are not doing this! She isn't marrying you! We aren't going to just let you do that!" she said looking at Kazuma. He held out his arm to stop her from moving closer. "...She is right. You aren't marrying our mom. There are many reasons why. But, the main reason is this: You aren't good enough for her. You will NEVER be good enough for her." he began. Eiko looked at Kazuma, "Now Kaz, that isn't fair. Kaiden is quite formidable in pro-..." she said as she got cut off by Kazuma.
"NO HE ISN'T!" he said, "He wasn't strong enough to keep this place from being attacked by that... THING! He didn't even protect her last time! HE STABBED HER!" he said beginning to shake in rage. "You are NOT marrying my mother." he said looking at Kaiden square in the face. His eyes, as cold as anything Kaiden ever saw. Just as cold as his fathers used to be. Kaiden stood up, looking at them both. He opened his arms, and shut his eyes.
"What would it take to prove you wrong? To assure you that I... WILL... protect her. Let me prove it." he said opening his eyes, a look of determination flowed through the room. Kazuma smiled, "Ok, then lets see your combat skills." he said gripping his arms tightly. Kaiden looked shocked, unsure what to really say at such a proposal. "F-Fight? You?!" he said backing up slightly. Kazuma began to walk, then ended up next to Eiko.
"No. I want you to fight her." he said looking rather proud. "My grandmother is the strongest person I know. She trained all of you. So, I want you to beat her. If you do, you can marry our mom, no questions asked." he said as Hana stood by his side. "I agree. Will you agree to this or not?" she said looking at Kaiden rather coldly. Eiko stood up, looking rather ashamed. "You both should be ashamed of yourselves, putting your mothers happiness naught before your own..." she said giving them a stern look. "But, if that is what you want..." she said looking at Kaiden, giving him a strong look.
"Stand. We are going outside."

Nuriko stopped playing. She turned to her children, looking between the group.
"I seriously can't believe I'm hearing this. Who do you think STOPPED ME! Am I not allowed a decision of my own?! You sound just like my brother. Except when I was pregnant with you, he was the one saying that Tori wasn't good enough for me. Nobody ever stops to consider that I am over 7000 years old. But apparently I am unable to make a decision on my own." She had gotten really angry, her temper flaring up, as well as her emotions. "Who do you think SAVED YOUR ASSES! You have NO RIGHT to blame him for ANYTHING!" Mikael put hand on his sisters shoulder. She tensed up, clenching her fists. She refused to lose her temper because of this. She stood up, beginning to walk out of the room. "I'm done with this. All of it. I don't need your damn permission to live my life." She stopped and turned to Kazuma and Hana, her look colder death. "I understand you are upset because your father is dead. But if Kaiden hadn't done what he did, we ALL would be dead. So blame me for letting it happen if you wish, but don't you DARE blame him." and with that she left the house, slamming the front door behind her, refusing to be a part of anything that happened after that.
Mikael sighed, standing up and placing his hands in his trenchcoat pocket. "This whole situation is stupid. Just don't make the same mistake I did." and he turned to follow Nuriko.

Kaiden stood there as Nuriko yelled at her children, hearing her say how horrible they were acting. Once she stormed out, Kaiden sighed. He waited a bit then went after her. Eiko turned to her grandchildren and gave them a stern and angry look. "You both have no idea how much she wants you two to accept it. But, the fact that you BOTH had little to no interest on her feelings about her being happy. You claim you protect her, yet, your actions show that you care not how she feels, as long as shes safe." she looked at them and her face grew even more angry. "You speak no differently than the ones who decided Kaiden was a MONSTER!" she said walking past them. Both of them had looks of horror. From Nuriko's words and of Eiko's, they became overwhelmed with feeling of shame. Hana sank to the floor, covering her face. "Oh Kaz... Mom was right..." she said tears swelling up in her eyes. Kazuma stood there, face still. "We... are such jerks..." he said looking down at his sister. "Hana... what should... what should we do?" he said lowering himself to the floor with her. She looked up, removing her glasses. "I-I don't know! We messed up big time..." she said wiping her tears away. Kazuma looked up at his uncle and then looked down in shame.
"W-What should we do...?"

Mikael sighed, watching the two kids. He turned to them, looking down at them with a mix of pity and understanding. "I think out of all the people in this world that could possibly be capable of protecting your mother, it's Kaiden. He's been through more than anyone outside a VERY select few know." He crossed his arms. He found it to look at Kazuma without getting irritated, he looked so much like his father. "Your mother tells me you two and Kaiden used to be the best of friends until recently. Then it got awkward. If there's anything in the world people should cherish, it's a friendship. Don't lose that. There's far too few of them these days." He leans against the wall, looking out the window toward where his sister ran off to.
Nuriko took a deep breath, trying to calm herself. She stood on the beach silently, watching the waves lapping at the sand. She could feel her irritation subsiding as she stood there, her eyes closed, wind blowing in her hair.

Hana listened to his words and sniffed. "Its not easy knowing that one of our best friends is now... doing things with our mom. Someone I had such feelings for myself just... It disgusts me." she said shutting her eyes. Kazuma nods hugging his sister, "He is our friend but... maybe we shouldn't be looking at this from our side..." he said as Hana looked back at Mikael. "We are just seeing it as a weird creepy transition. But, its what she wants and its what makes her happy so..." she said standing up. "We haven't known each other long, but..." she said looking at her uncle. "Thank you..." she said walking out of the room. Kazuma sighed as he stood up and stretched. He looked at Mikael and smiled, "I know about you. Uncle, I know that you and my dad never saw eye to eye and I have even heard that you hate him... but..." he said sighing in uncertainty. He walked over to him and held out his hand, wanting to shake his hand. A look of hope in his eyes.
"I just hope that doesn't mean you hate us too..."
-----------------------------------------------------
Kaiden rushed outside and noticed her making her way to the beach. She finally stopped as a small breeze blew through her hair. He stood behind her a few feet and kept his distance, knowing that she was trying to get a grip on her emotional state. After a few minutes, he spoke, hoping it wouldn't upset her. "Nuri..." he said walking up to her. "I am sorry for what happened at the house. I didn't think it'd turn out that horrible..." he said. In the distance, Hana stood just watching them. Two coats in hand. She walked up to Kaiden and tapped his shoulder, then, handing him a coat. "Stay warm. Please?" she said looking rather apologetic. Kaiden smiled softly and took the coat, then nodded to give the other to her mother. She inched forward, "Mom... I... Im sorry for what we said..." she said opening the coat and placing it around Nuriko. "Kazumaa and I just miss dad..." she said tearing up. "We just don't like to think that he is gone..." she said hugging her mother from behind. Kaiden looked down and then walked up to Hana.
"He isn't gone. Not really." he said as she looked at him. "He lives on in you and Kazuma." his words made her sob, and he smiled as he wiped her tears away. "I am not marrying your mom because I want to replace your father. Nor do I think I can live up to the amount of character he had. I don't ever want you or Kazuma to think I want to replace him either. Because, I couldn't even if I tried." she let go of Nuriko and hugged him.
"Im so sorry Kaiden... For being such a jerk to you and mom...!" she said. Kaiden held her, smiling. "Its not all your fault I am sure. There are still feelings you and Kazuma still face with him being gone. But, in time, like all things, they will fade and you will remember that he is still here watching over all of us, in some way." he said. She still sobbed, though, he knew they were mixed tears of regret, anger, confusion, and grief. She silenced herself enough to turn to her mother and look at her.
"Mother... I am... so... Sorry..."
